Q1:

Consider the following statements about diamagnetic material and diamagnetism.
  1. The materials have negative magnetic susceptibility.
  2. At very low temperature diamagnetic materials.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?

A 1 only

B 2 only

C Both 1 and 2

D neither 1 nor 2

ANS:A - 1 only

In electromagnetism, the magnetic susceptibility is one measure of the magnetic properties of a material.

The susceptibility indicates whether a material is attracted into or repelled out of a magnetic field. Generally, non-magnetic materials are said to be para- or diamagnetic because they do not possess permanent magnetization without external magnetic field.

- If X is positive, a material can be paramagnetic.
- If X is negative, the material is diamagnetic.

Ferromagnetic, ferrimagnetic, or antiferromagnetic materials have positive susceptibility and possess permanent magnetization even without external magnetic field.
