Q1:

For determining the moisture content of a soil sample, the following data is available Weight of container = 260 g, Weight of soil sample and = 320 g container, Weight of soil sample (dried) and = 310 g container. The moisture content of the soil sample, is

A 15%

B 18%

C 20%

D 25%

ANS:C - 20%

Wt.of container(w1) = 260gm,
Wt.of soil+container(w2) = 320gm,
Wt.of soil (dry)+container(w3) = 310gm.
Wt.of water=320-310 = 10gm,
Wt.of soil sample = w3-w1=310-260=50gm,
Water content w = (wt.of water/wt.of soil)*100.
=(10/50)*100=20%. For determine moisture content of the soil.
We know that the formula is weight of water/weight of solid.
So, here weight of sol sample-weight of dried soil/weight of water.
= 320-310/310-260 = 10/50.
= 0.2.
We know that water content always expressed in %.
So, 0.2*100.
= 20%. Weight of solid soil sample = weight of soil sample dried with container-weight of container so.
Weight of solid soil sample = 310-260 = 50 g.
Weight of water content = weight of soil sample with water and with container-weight of soil sample dried with container.
So,
Weight of water content = 320-310 = 10 g.
Moisture content = (weight of water /weight of solid soil) *100.
So,
Moisture content = (10/50) *100 = 20%. Weight of conner = 260gms.
Weight of conner+soil = 320gms.
Weight of conner+dry = 310gms.

W = (Weight of solid-Weight of dry)/(Weight of dry).
= ((60-50)/(50))*100.
= 20%
