Directions to SolveEach question given below consists of a statement, followed by two arguments numbered I and II. You have to decide which of the arguments is a 'strong' argument and which is a 'weak' argument.Give answer:
  • (A) If only argument I is strong
  • (B) If only argument II is strong
  • (C) If either I or II is strong
  • (D) If neither I nor II is strong and
  • (E) If both I and II are strong.

Q1: Statement: Should all the infrastructural development projects in India be handed over to the private sector? Arguments:
  1. No. The private sector entities are hot equipped to handle such projects.
  2. Yes. Such projects are handled by private sector in the developed countries.

A Only argument I is strong

B Only argument II is strong

C Either I or II is strong

D Neither I nor II is strong

E Both I and II are strong

ANS:D - Neither I nor II is strong

Explanation: Clearly, such projects if handed over to the private sector shall be given to a competent authority. So, argument I is vague. Also, imitating a policy on the basis that it worked out successfully in other countries holds no relevance. Thus, argument II also does not hold strong.
