Surveying

Q1: The whole circle bearing of a line is 290°. Its reduced bearing is

A N 20° E

B N 20° W

C N 70° W

D S 70° E

ANS:C - N 70° W

It's S70W if we go anti-clockwise, and N70W in clockwise.
But since there is only N70W in the options, so the right answer here is N70W. A bearing that defines the direction of a survey line by its horizontal angle measured clockwise from true north.
So it we go clockwise, it will fall in 4th quadrant i.e NW.
Hence, the correct answer is N70W. 290° is in fourth quadrant.
So,
RB = N(360 - 290)W.
= N70W. Draw 290 on co-ordinates. It will under NW. Therefore 360-290 = N70W. Reduced bearing = 360 degree (*)-whole circle bearing line.

= 360*-290* = 70*.
